Transfer 14: The Final Destination?!

Might be my last time to see Grilo Choro. He's so awesome.

Back in Aichi. It's sooooooooooooooooooooo hot. Just like last summer
when I was here. The train ride here felt like coming back home after
a vacation to another state. So many familiar things that I haven't
seen in a while, mixed with the unfamiliar scenery of Toyohashi.
There's a lot more buildings and people, but the roads seem way
complex for me. Still don't know where anything is.
Express train

The ward is pretty nice. One thing I want to focus on here is member
work since that worked out way good in Takaoka. So this week was Obon,
which is a Japanese holiday weekend when ,they believe, the spirits of
their ancestors come back home from the spirit world for the weekend.
So the whole family gathers together from out of town and has a
celebration, including fireworks. Members of the church often
celebrate by going to the Temple to do ordinances for their ancestors.
So there were a lot of folks from out of town, and a lot of folks who
went out of town last week.

At sacrament meeting, two young women shared their feelings about the
Temple. One of them spoke for about 15 minutes and was holding back
tears as she spoke of the feeling she gets each time she goes. I was
really impressed with the faith of these two teenage girls, they have
strong testimonies and really cared about the gospel. Not something
you see very often I think.
We accidentally bought a bullet train ticket. Whoops. Yolo

We have a lot of investigators here, it's pretty cool to have
someone to teach each day. Elder Gifford is a young and very energetic
missionary. He's so full of energy, it's hard for an old timer like me
to keep up. He has a big vision and he's full of the spirit.

Well I'm slowly adjusting. It always takes a little time to get used
to the new place and people. You just have to give me someone to love,
and a few fun locations, and it all starts to fall into place. I hope
and have faith that we can see miracles here. Toyohashi is actually
the mission president, president Ishii 's home ward. So I feel special
being the first missionary he has assigned to work here since he
became the mission president.

Love you all, have a good week! Fight the fight, finish the course,
keep the faith.

Love,
Elder Watkins

Had lunch at our dendo shunins house with the fufu (senior couple) missionaries. That's right we have a senior couple in Toyohashi! The Suzukis! They are awesome. Suzuki shimai is even going to fix the pants I broke. Anyway lunch was awesome!

The Toyohashi ward chapel.

My companion elder Gifford.

Our messy apartment. Gonna clean it.

My desk

And I got this bruise on my bicep from it. Other than that, I ripped my pants. But I'm ok.

I didn't see a low hanging wire so I biked into it and it threw me to the ground. I got this crazy scratch on my arm.

Till we meet again...

Looks like my time in Takaoka is at an end. I am transferring back to
Aichi ken, my next and probably final area is the Toyohashi Ward in
the Nagoya East Stake. This is my third area in that stake. I will be
in the Okazaki zone. My new companion is once again a transfer 3
missionary, but I've never met him before. His name is Elder Gifford
from Utah. Elder Dana's new companion is the big man himself, Elder
Smith! That should be fun.
Transfer calls!

I have to say, I never thought I'd find an area that would beat
Nagano, and I still haven't, but Takaoka come pretty close, it is
officially my second favorite area of my past 4 areas. I met a lot of
people who taught me a lot and we worked hard and had lots of fun
here. Still didn't get that golden baptism, but we came pretty close
more than once and saw many miracles.

I really feel like a part of the ward family here. I felt so much
love at church yesterday as a gave my farewell testimony, and said
goodbye to everyone. Everyone had lots of good things to say to me. It
was a real honor to work with them all. Some of them invited us to
dinner yesterday, and lunch today. The Bishop's son received the
Aaronic priesthood yesterday, and they asked me and my companion to
join in the ordination with him. That was so special as it reminded me
of when I was in young men's, and the many ordinations I'd seen
before.
Skype mogi with our Zone Leader, Elder Grilo

As we left the church building, the remaining few people in the
church came out to wave us off. Hayashi kyoudai began teasingly
singing the lyrics to "God be with you till we meet again". They all
waved goodbye as we rode away, I've never seen a farewell like that on
my mission before. It was pretty cool.

I told them I would come back again someday, I don't know when, but
in this gospel things are eternal. So at some point in the future I
will definitely see each of them again. I don't think I can forget
them so easily, they have each touched my heart and helped me in just
4 short months.

Well for my last area, there were places I wanted to go and
missionaries I wanted to work with, but like I said last week, the
Lord has a better plan. So I'm going to an area I never thought I'd go
to, with a companion I've never met before, but I trust in the Lord
that it will be the best 3 transfers of these best 2 years.

Well I love yall a lot. Thank you for your prayers. Hope you all
have a great week, God be with you till we meet again.

Love,
Elder Watkins

Meet Za Morumon

Traditional dancers

Hey folks!

Week 7 of this especially long transfer. Craziness! Last week we
finally finished the lessons for the little boy. Now it's all up to
his mom and the members to get him baptized. I really hope that it
happens this week so I can be there for it. If it's any later I'm
afraid I might have transferred by then.

Yesterday we watched Meet the Mormons with everybody at church. It
was dubbed in Japanese, but I understood most of it okay. It is a very
good documentary about the lives of some members. Way cool.

The Tanabata matsuri, a star festival, just started on Saturday. It
goes on for a whole week and is practically right outside our
apartment. It is very fun to go out there and see everyone being genki
and to talk with some friendly people. We are going there today for a
district activity so that should be fun. Lots of food and music there.

Well I'm starting to get a little nervous for transfer calls. This
next one could determine the rest of my mission. There are so many
places I'd love to see in the mission, but I'd also like to stay in
Takaoka for another transfer. I've been thinking a lot lately of how I
just love this Ward and this area. I really feel like part of the ward
family. Anything could happen, I'm just gonna leave the fate of my
mission in The Lord's hands. For He is the author of the story, and He
knows how it ends. So I know that it will be the best.

Not a lot to say this week other than when you don't know what you
want or are unsure of what's gonna happen, trust God, He will make it
alright. Perhaps you non missionaries have more use of freedom of
choice, but God the the author of all things, if you trust Him, you
will see how things get better. Such is what I've learned time and
again on the mission.

Well, I'm a missionary, and an adventurer. I'm not a husband or a
father, but I've been a mom a few times. My name is Elder Watkins, and
I'm a Mormon.

With love! :D
